Volunteering at 462
Anyone is welcome to volunteer at the garden at any time. The best way to get involved is by attending a volunteer workday, usually held on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10:00am-12:00pm. You can find out about workdays on our Instagram, calendar, and events page.
You can also get added to our volunteer email list by reaching out to us at 462halsey@gmail.com
When you come for workdays, please be sure to bring yourself some water, wear close toed shoes, and comfortable clothes that can get dirty.
Garden Membership
Membership at 462 Halsey Farm is open to anybody who is serious about getting involved on a permanent basis with the garden. Members are expected to commit significantly to volunteer at the garden, come to the majority of the year’s garden business meetings, and agree to all garden policies, including the Safe Space Policy. All new members are expected to attend a Membership Orientation session.
New members enter into a three-month probationary period before they will be able to vote at member meetings. We ask a minimum commitment of five volunteer hours a month from members, in addition to participation in voting, maintenance, and active participation.
Check out our Events page for upcoming Membership Orientation sessions!
Note on Private plots:
The 462 Halsey Community Farm is a communal space, and the majority of the raised garden beds are communally maintained by all garden members. The few private plots that are in the farm are maintained by garden elders (longtime BedStuy residents, original garden organizers). If you fit that criteria and would like to apply for a private plot, please email us at 462halsey@gmail.com.
